Cyberpunk 2077 Patch 2.1 Adds the Metro System, Hangouts, and More!

Cyberpunk 2077 will release patch 2.1 on December 5th. It is arguably still a huge patch in terms of content, despite being a “.1” incremental update.

Cyberpunk 2077 Patch 2.1 Adds the Metro System, Hangouts, and More!

Coming out of absolutely nowhere is Cyberpunk 2077’s Patch 2.1, which follows on the heels of Phantom Liberty and Patch 2.0. Some would argue that the Phantom Liberty expansion, which sold over 4.5 million units by itself, already “fixed” what was missing from the base game and earlier versions.

However CD Projekt Red has shown us in yesterday’s livestream that they have at least one more major update up their sleeves. Come December 5th, players can finally ride the Metro!

Metro 2077

One of the earliest game footage trailers showcased protagonist V being able to hop onto a train and catch a ride to their destination, instead of having to drive (or fast travel) everywhere. Even the Phantom Liberty story trailer had Idris Elba smugly riding a train. Now Players’ V can travel between 19 different stations.

Players can choose to use the metro stations as fast travel points, or even just properly ride the train and travel in real-time and take in Night City. Thanks to the new incoming in-head radio system, players can finally brood and listen to “I Really Want to Stay At Your House” on the train just like David in the Edgerunners anime. This should be as immersive as it gets!

Speaking of in-head radio, the feature just makes sense considering that V has a high-powered computer crammed into their noggin, paired with what seems to be ultra-fast connected internet. It just makes sense that V could add a Spotify piece of chrome, right? The only limitation here is that music will pause or fade out during dialogue sections or areas that have scripted music that sets the tone.

Cyberpunk 2077 Sandevistan

The Cyberpunk 2077 devs have also seen all the memes comparing the Edgerunners’ version of Adam Smather versus his in-game counterpart. The iteration in Edgerunners is a terrifying caricature of a man, one that is less human and more metal. He is especially deadly with the fact that he uses his own Sandevistan module with deadly precision – something that he is seemingly missing from the main game.

Cyberpunk 2077 – Adam SMASH!!

Now Adam Smasher will activate the Cyberware in other to become a force to be reckoned with in Cyberpunk 2077. He will zip around the battlefield at even more inhuman speed, blasting the player from all angles. Smasher will also retain the signature “trails” that emphasize how fast the character is going, and where he came from.

Bosses in general will be improved in Cyberpunk 2077’s Patch 2.1, but there is no other mention of who else will be getting deadly new toys to play with.

V, It’s Roman! Let’s Go Bowling!

The massive patch will also add in some new activities, plus expanding some of the already existing ones. One of the more intriguing ones that caught fans’ attention will be the addition of hangouts with V’s chosen romantic partner. No specifics were given, but hopefully, this expands to more content with our significant other, whoever that may be (the correct answer here is Panam, by the way).

Speed Demons of Night City will also be pleased to hear that there are new replayable car races after completing Claire’s quests. Winning these tests of speed will award V cred that they can use to get discounts when purchasing vehicles.

Of which, there are some new ones. There will be five new motorcycles, and one car modeled after Johnny Silverhand’s. Motorcycles, in particular, will be receiving some physics updates. Essentially players will be able to do tricks such as flips now, as their wheels will no longer be glued to the ground.

And better be quick, as even gang members can give V a chase come Cyberpunk 2077’s Update 2.1. Similar to police chases, these will be encounters best tackled while in a vehicle, at top speed, with a weapon in hand.

Accessibility 2077

Last is a massive win for those advocating for accessibility features. While Cyberpunk 2077 already had some, more is always better in this regard. There will be three new colorblind modes available to those who need is: Protanopia, Deuteranopia, and Tritanopia.

Subtitles will also be getting even more options, as you can enable cinematic, radio, and over NPC subtitles. Each of these can be toggled on or off and can be customized to be bigger, smaller, or even if they have a background for easier reading. Fonts in general will also get a ton of size options, perfect for those on the Steam Deck screen.

Aim Assist will also be getting various degrees instead of being just a toggle. Ranged, Melee, and Vehicle Combat can each be tweaked individually.

Welcome Back to Night City

Cyberpunk 2077’s Patch 2.1 looks to be quite a beefy one in its regard. While it might not have as sweeping changes as Update 2.0, everything presented thus far is quite good. Fans were not even expecting this, as it was assumed that Update 2.0 would be the final major patch that added content. We were so, so wrong.

The new patch drops on December 5, 2023, alongside the “Ultimate Edition” that includes both the Base Game and Phantom Liberty. Coincidentally, this is also the day that the trailer for Grand Theft Auto VI drops.
